Ledakan terjadi di garasi dekat stadion sepak bola dan cafe, ketika bom rakitan yang dipasang di salah satu kendaraan meledak dan juga menyebabkan ledakan tangki gas yang berada di dekatnya, ungkap sumber keamanan.
Mayoritas korban adalah pesepak bola amatir di stadion tersebut.
Pernyataan militer menyebutkan bahwa tangki gas yang meledak di garasi di Baghdad Timur menimbulkan sejumlah korban jiwa dan pasukan keamanan kini sedang menyelidiki penyebab ledakan tersebut.
